What is hydraulic CAD software?

Hydraulic CAD software is a specialized design tool for creating hydraulic schematics, 3D manifolds, and related documentation. Unlike generic CAD programs, it includes ready-to-use hydraulic symbols and verified components, making the design process faster and more accurate.

Do I need any other software to use HydroSym?

No, you don’t. HydroSym is fully stand-alone, and you don’t need any additional software.

What hardware requirements do I need to use HydroSym?

HydroSym is not based on heavy programs. A simple PC with Windows is sufficient.

Can I import my old schematics into HydroSym?

Yes. If you have existing hydraulic schematics in .dxf or .dwg format, you can easily import these schematics into HydroSym.

Can I integrate HydroSym with my own PDM/ERP?

Yes. HydroSym is flexible and simple to integrate with programs and back-end systems. Building the integration may require a little work with your IT department, but, as we’re experts in creating these workflows, we’re quick! Can I export from HydroSym?

Yes, you can export the hydraulic schematic as a .dxf file or as a PDF.


What is the Pack & Save function for?

Pack & Save lets you export your schematic and all related information into a single zip file, perfect for documentation or sharing with clients.

When unzipped, the file becomes a clear, ready-to-use PDF package that includes:

  • Your schematic

  • A fully itemized and linked Bill of Materials (BOM)

  • Datasheets for all used components

Each component in your schematic is numbered to match the BOM, so item 1 in the drawing is also item 1 in the BOM.

Can I quickly convert my hydraulic schematic into a Bill of Materials in HydroSym?

Yes. Once your schematic is complete, you can generate a Bill of Materials (BOM) with a single click.

Is HydroSym a simulator?

No, HydroSym is not a simulation tool. It is focused on creating accurate hydraulic schematics and documentation.

Why doesn't HydroSym include simulation features?

HydroSym is designed to help engineers quickly create accurate, professional hydraulic schematics and related documentation. Our focus is on functioning schematics and real-world design clarity.

If you need simulation capabilities, you can use HydroSym alongside dedicated simulation tools.

What software packages can I use with HydroSym?

HydroSym exports to a wide range of CAD programs. You can choose your preferred format from a dropdown menu when exporting your schematic.

Which components are available in the Paro Component Library?

The Paro Component Library contains over 1 million hydraulic components.

If your component or symbol isn’t available, you can create your own, and add it to the Library. Or, if you prefer, we can create the component or symbol for you. Just get in touch at library@paro.nl.

How do I add a component to the Paro Component Library?

You can add components yourself by creating new symbols or modifying existing ones and saving them as components within the software. Watch our video tutorial on adding components here.

Can I add symbols and components to the Library myself?

What’s the difference between a component and a symbol?

A component is a manufacturer-specific file that contains all part information, such as number, description, type, and manufacturer. Every component also links to other files, like assembly drawings and symbols.

A symbol is like a picture: it doesn’t contain any part information but can represent multiple different components.

Can I draw a hydraulic schematic exclusively with symbols?

Yes, you can start by drawing your schematic with symbols. Once you know which components you need, you can easily replace the symbols with actual components from the library.

Can I create parts other than hydraulic components?

Yes, you can create symbols and components for any part you need, not just hydraulic components. For example, you can also create pneumatic components.

Are tubes, pipes and hoses also part of the Library?

Yes, tubes, pipes and hoses are also included in the Paro Component Library.

If you need a part that isn’t yet in the Library, you can create it yourself, and add it to the Library. If you prefer, we can add parts to the Library, free of charge. Just email us on library@paro.nl.

Can I use HydroSym for a heating schematic?

Yes, HydroSym can be used to design and lay out heating systems. We already work with companies in this sector — including global brands like Ariston. Read how Ariston uses HydroSym to unify their schematics and improve collaboration across their global teams.

You can use existing symbols or add new ones to the Library. If you need support, we’re happy to help; the process is similar to adding a new component.

Can I use HydroSym for a water schematic?

Yes, HydroSym can also be adapted for water schematics, and we work with companies in this sector as well.

As a first step, we’ll schedule a call to understand your needs, technical setup, and goals. From there, well propose a tailored process, identify the teams involved, and define a project timeline. Do I need prior experience with CAD to use HydroSym?

No, you don’t. HydroSym and HydroMan software are stand-alone products.

Some hydraulic software packages use AutoCAD. Is HydroSym based on AutoCAD?

No. We built HydroSymfrom scratch. HydroSym brings together our combined knowledge, expertise and experiences from our customers and our own engineering practice.

We believe creating hydraulic schematics needs a specialized tool. HydroSym is a completely stand-alone software package. You don’t need any additional programs, plug-ins or extensions to use HydroSym.
